Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) congratulates all advocates of transparency on the International Right to Know Day (28th September). CHRI is pleased to know that The Maldives is the latest entrant to the group of countries in the Commonwealth that has national level RTI law. However, several commonwealth countries in Africa, Caribbean and Pacific have not yet acted on their commitment for a transparent government by passing the RTI Bills which have been pending for several years. CHRI calls upon all governments in these countries to prioritize the passage of the RTI Bills that are pending. CHRI also calls upon other countries that have not made much progress in terms of putting together and drafting transparency legislation to start the RTI law making process in a participatory and consultative manner.
