KARACHI: Sindh government is committed to introduce the law of "Right to Information," in accordance to the spirit of Article 19 9(A), said the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Sikandar Mandhro here on Friday.
In a meeting with UNDP's National Technical Advisor on Decentralization and Governance, he said the provincial government is presently reviewing legislation on the right to information as adopted in other provinces including Punjab and KP.
The minister said Sindh would not only ensure a comparative study of available pieces of legislation on the subject but would also corporate recommendations by different political parties, civil society organizations, bar councils and media organizations.
Dr Mandhro said draft bill on right to information is in process of being developed, with major focus on consensus among all relevant stakeholders, and would be duly adopted by the provincial assembly.
He on the occasion, expressed his personal commitment to bring reforms facilitating citizens' access to information for greater transparency and public accountability of democratic governance.
The minister appreciated UNDP's technical support to the Sindh government in streamlining one of the most relevant pieces of legislation for the country and its provinces.
