ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid said here Monday that the draft of Right to Information Bill (RTI)-2015 would be placed on the agenda of the next meeting of the Federal Cabinet.
He informed that the Prime Minister has recently approved the placement of the draft Bill on agenda of the next meeting of the Federal Cabinet to solicit its approval.
He said that government is committed to Right to Information as constitution of Pakistan gives every citizen a fundamental right to have access to information in all matters of public importance.
The Minister said that the bill will grant the right to every citizen to seek information.
Apart from providing access to information, it will also pave the way for a more systemic approach regarding proper management of the record.
He said government not only believes in freedom of expression but also in fairness, openness, transparency and accountability.
The Minister added that the passage of the Draft RTI bill 2015 from the parliament would be a landmark achievement in the democratic and political history of Pakistan.
This bill when approved would also fulfill a long standing obligation and commitment of democratic dispensation to open up the officialdom in line with the needs of 21st century information age, the minister concluded.
